How do I format hanging indents?

Answer

Several citations styles use hanging indents in reference lists or bibliographies. To format hanging indents: 

Microsoft Word

  1. Highlight the section of text you would like to indent.
  2. Go to Format > Paragraph in the top bar menu
  3. Select Indentation in the Indents and Spacing tab
  4. Under "Special" select "Hanging"
  5. Click OK. 

Google Docs

  1. Highlight the section of text you would like to indent
  2. Go to Format > Align & Indent > Indentation options in the top menu 
  3. under Special intent select "Hanging" 
  4. Click "Apply"

Apple Pages

  1. Highlight the section of text you would like to indent
  2. Click the Format side bar (paintbrush) and select the layout button near the top. 
  3. Click the disclosure arrow next to Indents
  4. Click the Up Arrow or the Down arrow next to Left to change the indent’s depth.
