Josephine Sloboda Abplanalp, was a 1945 graduate of Westbrook Junior College and dedicated throughout her lifetime to her alma mater. Ms. Abplanalp was instrumental in funding the conversion of the historic MacArthur Gymnasium into the modern academic library which now bears her name; the Portland Campus Abplanalp '45 Library.
